Xander Schauffele of the United States holds to win the Olympic men’s golf title | Tokyo Olympics 2020

American Xander Schauffele with Paul Casey at Kasumigaseki Country Club Rory McIlroy Entered the bronze medal 7-way playoffs.

Schauffele endured the final round 61 of the Olympic record from South African-born Rory Sabatini (now representing Slovakia), winning one shot with 18 under pars, and Sabatini finished second.

Irish star McIlroy may have finished third after missing Pat in agony on the 18th, but was one of those who faced additional holes before reaching the podium.

He was joined by Casey of England, recently crowned open champion Collin Morikawa, and Japanese Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama with 15 unders.

Schauffele became nervous after Sabatini tried to turn the leaderboard to his head.

The Sabatini round included an eagle, 10 birdies and 2 bogies on a totally impressive low-scoring day.

Schauffele is the first Olympic golf champion from the United States since Charles Sands in 1900.
