Yankees rally to defeat Mets, halt 7-game skid – Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta, Georgia 2021-09-12 00:19:09 –

Aaron Judge hit two home runs in the eighth round on Saturday night. Andrew Velazquez scored a go-a-head run with Javier Baez’s slow error when the New York Yankees beat host New York Mets. -7.

The Yankees lost seven games in a row and were drawn in the second American League wild card spot with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays, who entered the Yankees half-game back on Saturday, wiped out the doubleheader from the Baltimore Orioles.

The defeat was the fourth in six games of Mets, who played in four games after Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres in the second NL Wildcard race. The Mets remained five games ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East, thanks to the Braves, who lost to the Miami Marlins 6-4.

The two teams stood side by side at the baseline of the New York unity show at a pre-match ceremony honoring the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. But it didn’t take long for the team and a sold-out crowd of 43,144 (the largest in Citi Field since 2019) to get into the spirit of the regular Subway Series. As soon as Taijuan Walker walked through the game’s leading DJ LeMahieu, fans began trading “Let’s Go Yankees” and “Let’s Go Mets” chants.

The Yankees took the second 5-0 lead when Kyle Higashioka and Brett Gardner each hit a two-run home run and the judge hit a home run shortly after Gardner. Mets quickly rebounded in the lower half when Kevin Pillar (double), James McCann (triple) and Walker (single) scored consecutive RBIs against Corey Kluber.

Baez returned home in 3rd place, and McCann led the Mets in a 2-run home run in 6th place. Pillar had an RBI single on the seventh off of Clay Holmes (7-3).

Gardner led Trevor May (7-3) in 8th place. This is the Yankees’ first hit since the judge’s first home run. The judge made a home ring over the left wing wall, and Giancarlo Stanton chased Mei in a single. Pinch runner Velázquez finished second in Gleyber Torres’ two-out single and raced at home when Baez defeated Pete Alonso in Luke Voit’s potential inning-end double play grounder.

Aroldis Chapman doubled JD Davis with a pinch hitter ground rule for the ninth time, but got stuck for the third time and won the 26th save.

Walker shot 5 runs with 6 hits, 1 walk with 6 innings and 8 hits. Kluber gave up 4 runs with 5 hits and 2 steps while hitting 6 hits in 4 innings.
