Young sisters raise money to help build houses for the homeless – Colorado Springs, Colorado

Colorado Springs — Every year, dozens of homes in the Old North End area participate in the annual Neighborhood Yard Day Sale.

Shelley Jensen, founder of WeFortify, said:

Lemonade stands were posted every few blocks, but one stand stood out.

Emily (10 years old) and Toura Cooper (8 years old) focused on collecting as much money as possible for the bigger ones.

A local non-profit organization.

“When I see homeless people, I’m really sad because they’re homeless and not so many,” said Emily Cooper.

The proceeds of the sisters were donated to We Fortify, a non-profit organization that builds a small home community for homeless young people and young people on the verge of losing their homes.

“Homeless people in our community need a home,” Cooper said.

WeFortify founder Shelley Jensen says the two are the youngest donors she had.

“I got goose bumps. Not only was it very generous, but how often are young children already able to see outside their world? At that age, it’s just amazing,” Jensen said. I did.

Jensen says it is her hope to put the first five homes on the ground by September 1.
