The plan for shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch on May 7, 2019 was that one of the shooters would eventually be killed and the other would become a “hero.”

Last year, on dozens of charges, including first-class murder, he pleaded guilty to being involved in the attack, according to Alec McKinney. He said he started making elaborate plans with Ericsson a few weeks ago. Eight students were injured and one died.

McKinney began testifying on Tuesday at Ericsson’s trial. Ericsson has been charged with similar charges for his role in an attack that killed one student and injured several.

“As the plan went on, I decided it was best to blame everything on my own,” McKinney said. “(Ericsson) was going to shoot me to make it look like he was trying to save everyone … he wanted to be a hero.”

In the opening statement at the start of the trial in May, Ericsson’s defense team claimed that the client actually wanted to stop the attack. They said several factors, such as Ericsson’s age, substance use, and lack of sleep, influenced the decisions he made on the day of the shoot.

But at the beginning of his testimony, McKinney told another story.
