Denver — This weekend, Youth Seen, an LGBTQIA-colored youth mental health and safety organization, is hosting a series of free Juneteenth Black Pride events.
Weekend events start on Thursday night. This is the Strange Fruit of Black Excellence Gala, an event with tickets in black attire, including discussions and celebrations from Denver’s diverse LGBTQIA community.
“We spotlight some people in the community, talk a bit about mental health and wellness, what it looks like, take up space in the community, and talk about the implications of forming an alliance in the community. Then we’re going to enter the first award, the Community Award, which is given to a pretty great person, “said Dr. Tara Jae, executive director of the youth scene.
Dr. Jae told Denver7 that Gala and other weekend events are celebrating the present and recognizing past challenges and injustices.
“Thursday Gala is essentially a celebration of the excellence of blacks in our queer community, which is why we literally join, appear, appear and have a good time with each other,” said Jae. Said.
On Friday, Youth Seen will host a silent disco called “Wakanda Forever” at Civic Center Park at 9pm.
There will also be a gospel branch drug show at X Badenver at noon on Sunday.
