(NEXSTAR) – YouTube announced Wednesday night that it fixed an issue that caused playback issues for hundreds of thousands of US and international users early in the evening.
“… and I’m back. Sorry for the interruption. This has been fixed on all devices and YouTube services. Please wait,” Team YouTube tweeted at 9:13 EST.
YouTube has not identified the cause of the outage. Almost two hours ago, the company tweeted.
“If you’re having trouble watching a video on YouTube right now, you’re not alone. Our team is aware of the problem and is working on a fix.”
According to DownDetector, a site that monitors online outage reports, the problem began around 6:45 pm Eastern Standard Time. This issue has affected YouTube Music, YouTubeTV and YouTube.
According to DownDetector, as of 7:30 pm Eastern Standard Time, there are more than 280,000 reports of issues affecting YouTube.
The outage map showed numerous complaints from the northeastern United States, Florida, the South, and parts of California. Reports from outside the United States came from Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Western Europe, and Japan.
Due to a playback error, some users failed to load the video, so they used an infinitely rotating wheel, while others reported receiving an error message.
