ZF has announced a new brake actuator platform.
For the first time, ZF uses a platform approach to state that fourth-generation brake actuator technology provides OEMs with “significant safety and cost-effective benefits.”
The German supplier has signed a long-term contract with an unnamed European-based OEM to equip medium and heavy trucks and buses with the latest brake chambers.
“Our new brake actuator platform, which offers the highest safety and quality standards, offers OEMs significant performance and efficiency benefits, including cost and variation reduction.
“Our first customer award from a major OEM is a clear recognition of our approach.
With over 70 million brake actuators sold worldwide, this innovation builds on our position as a trusted OEM partner with nearly 40 years of brake actuation technology. “
With a platform approach, ZF’s brake chamber series supports all types of trucks, buses and trailers. This redesign is based on Wabco’s braking technology, which focuses on design and cost.
This platform enables economies of scale through standardization. This includes up to 27% reduction in variation, up to 23% reduction in parts, and associated maintenance cost reductions.
It requires less space, is more flexible to install, and has smaller component sizes and weights.
