With the smart pet wearable market estimated at $1.72 million by 2024, a new startup in the pet technology space is entering the scene with dog trackers and collars that can directly connect with satellite tracking without the need for an LTE signal. At CES 2025, SATELLAI presented pet trackers and smart collars, which include features such as health monitoring, activity tracking, and even an AI trainer (accessible via a companion app) to provide guidance on training and pet care recommendations that are tailored to specific dogs. . The company was founded by Mark Mao, now CEO, who previously worked at Huami, the Chinese smart wearables company behind Amazfit, Fitbit’s competitor. Mao conceived the idea for SATELLAI after she discovered that her dog injured its leg while she was away. The smart collar comes with seven sensors that monitor your pet’s health, including breathing and heart rate, according to the company. Although there are a variety of pet trackers and smart collars available, SATELLAI says its offering stands out in many ways. For example, the tracker uses a Qualcomm 9205S modem, so it can connect directly with satellite tracking without the need for a terrestrial signal like LTE. This means that it will continue to transmit its location, even in remote areas where there are no nearby cell towers. The company claims this is the first dog tracker to offer this type of direct satellite connectivity. The tracker also comes with a harness that has a built-in solar panel, so it can be recharged while the dog wears it. In addition, the SATELLAI collar uses dual signal transmitters for L1 (which is the oldest GPS signal) and L5 signal (the most advanced), which is intended to provide more accurate positioning in crowded environments. The company explains that using two different bandwidths can help when the collar is around many objects – such as trees, walls, etc. – for signals that can bounce. It also offers features like virtual fences and different types of corrective feedback to reduce barking or prevent dogs from walking into certain areas, such as swimming pools or thorn bushes.
