Amazon is now the latest company to end some of its DEI programs, Bloomberg reports, after Meta announced it would also end its diversity efforts on Friday. An internal memo sent to staff said the company wants to eliminate outdated programs and materials as part of a review of current initiatives. “Instead of having a group of individuals build programs, we’re focusing on programs with proven results — and we’re also aiming for a more inclusive culture,” Candi Castleberry, senior human resources executive, said in the memo. Amazon joins companies like Meta and Microsoft that have begun to reverse their previous commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Information reported on Friday that Amazon updated the company’s website to appear to disparage DEI and also removed a post from 2021 that stated its focus on DEI. The news comes as tech companies — and their leaders — prepare for an incoming presidential administration that will be hostile to DEI, according to Bloomberg.
