PHOENIX – After days of ballot counting, Arizona Democrat Katie Hobbs is in a tight race with election-rejecting Republican Kari Lake, endorsed by former President Donald Trump, according to the Associated Press poll. He was elected governor in the war.
The victory was a relief to Arizona Democrats, who spent most of the campaign trying to beat the made-for-TV Mr. Lake, who spent 22 years at the local Fox affiliate with Mr. Hobbes, the current Secretary of State of Arizona. They were fighting over whether they could do it. Many of them as news anchors.
Most polls before the election had Mr. Lake leading the race by a small margin. Lake showed her knack for winning headlines while antagonizing reporters in her first ever campaign. Alongside a list of pro-Trump candidates who won primaries in Arizona’s battleground states, she declared an invasion along the southern border and expressed support for the state’s pre-statement abortion ban. promised to unabashedly run on the pro-Trump agenda.
Following the primary, Lake boasted that he was “betting on the heart of the McCain machine.”
Hobbes ran a much more modest and traditional campaign in a race she often describes as a choice between “sanity and chaos.”
Hobbes made national headlines and faced withering criticism for refusing to debate Lake. Hobbes focused on a message that crossed party lines and appealed to influential independent voters in Arizona, and even some Republicans who were fed up with Trump in 2020, Biden. became his second Democratic presidential candidate to win Arizona since 1948.
