“Pickleball is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon, with exponential growth across genders, age groups, geographies and income levels,” says Levy.
The tournament features singles matches between two Legends: Roddick vs. Chan and McEnroe vs. Agassi. The Legends then play again in the final doubles match (McEnroe and Chang vs. Roddick and Agassi) to determine the split of the $1 million prize pool.
Each former tennis player has a pretty impressive track record, so the competition is going to be fierce. McEnroe is his seven-time Grand Slam champion and Agassi is his eight-time Grand Slam champion. Roddick is a world number one and has won a Grand Slam, while Chan became the youngest player to win a major tennis title when she won the 1989 French Open at just 17 years old.
Slam will also give amateur pickleball players the chance to enter challenges on March 31st and April 1st. Up to 96 doubles teams will compete on a first-come, first-served basis for a $10,000 prize pool. He will take on two of his tennis legends before a televised match on April 2nd.
