Jeff Koons’ ‘Balloon Dog’ sculpture shattered at Miami art fair – NPR

At an arts festival in Miami on Thursday, an art collector accidentally smashed a $42,000 porcelain Jeff Koons “Balloon Dog” sculpture.
“I was clearly shocked and a little saddened,” Cedric Boero, who was managing the booth that displayed the sculpture, told NPR. I didn’t know.”

According to Boero, the shattered sculpture was worth $24,000 a year ago. However, other versions of the balloon dog sculpture have sold out, so its price has gone up.
Boero said an art collector accidentally knocked over the sculpture, causing it to fall to the floor. The sound of shattered sculptures immediately stopped all conversation in the hall, causing everyone to turn around.
“Shattered to pieces,” event-attending artist Steven Gamson posted on Instagram, along with the video that followed. “One of the craziest things I’ve ever seen.”

Gamson said in the post that he tried unsuccessfully to buy the rest of the sculpture.he later said to miami herald That the story added value to the shattered sculpture.
