Marijuana Appears at Circle K Gas Stations in Florida
Florida residents will soon be able to purchase marijuana products alongside cigarettes and snacks at Circle K gas stations, according to Green Thumb Industries, one of the largest cannabis producers in the United States.
Under the companies’ new partnership, starting next year cannabis will be sold at 10 “RISE Express” dispensaries with separate entrances from gas stations, Chicago-based Green Thumb said Wednesday. Some of the products available include marijuana flowers, pre-rolls, gummies, and e-cigarettes. Green Thumb will supply from its 28-acre facility under construction in Ocala, Florida. Although still illegal at the federal level, marijuana is legally sold in Florida for medical use, and nearly 560,000 Floridians currently have medical marijuana cards. according to to the Florida Department of Health.
Marijuana is sold in some legal independent dispensaries in the United States, and cannabis is licensed for medical use in 37 states and adult recreational use in 19 states. according to to the national session of the state legislature.
Quebec, Canada-based Alimentation Couche-Tard, owner of Circle K, has confirmed that Green Thumb has agreed to lease space adjacent to its Florida store. “For clarity, Circle K does not sell cannabis in its US stores,” a spokesperson told CBS Moneywatch in an email.
According to Green Thumb, the global company operates approximately 600 locations in Florida.
