POLL-U.S. natural gas stockpiles increase by 52 bcf in week ending April 28

May 3 (Reuters) – U.S. utilities likely added 52 billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas to their storage last week, less than usual, according to a Reuters poll.
This can be compared to 72 bcf infused in the same week a year ago, an average increase of 78 bcf over the 5-year period (2018-2022).

Stockpiles are forecast to reach 2.61 trillion cubic feet (tcf) for the week ending April 28, 32% above the same week last year and about 20% above the five-year average.
The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) releases its weekly storage report on Thursday at 10:30 am EDT (1430 GMT).
According to data provider Refinitiv, the heating degree days (HDD) were around 74 last week, compared to the usual 57 HDD in 30 years.
HDD estimates the heating needs of homes and businesses by measuring the number of degrees the average daily temperature drops below 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius).
A Reuters survey of 16 analysts found that analyst estimates ranged from 47 bcf to 60 bcf infusions, with a median increase of 51 bcf.
Initial estimates for the week ending 5 May indicated that injection doses ranged from 62 bcf to 89 bcf, with an average increase of 67 bcf.
This compares with an increase of 76 bcf in the same week last year and a five-year average increase of 87 bcf.
