Scout Motors EVs will have satellite connectivity

Volkswagen branch Scout Motors will kick off CES 2025 next week, with good news for those planning to use the company’s EVs, outside: the Traveler SUV pickup and the upcoming Terra will have a built-in satellite connection. Scout Motors does not say where the satellite linkup hardware is sourced from, or who the service provider is. All it says so far is that the vehicle will be “connected from the factory” and that the hotspot is “intended to have a wide range to help drivers and passengers stay connected in and around the vehicle.” The company only unveiled its first two vehicles in October, and they won’t launch until 2027, so it’s no surprise that Scout Motors isn’t ready to spill the beans. Perhaps we can pick up some clues when we see the vehicle at next week’s event, where Scout Motors also plans to show its “Community UX” user interface. This – as we learned at TechCrunch Disrupt – will be built on software developed by Rivian’s joint venture with Volkswagen.
