Tech giant TikTok has announced new safeguards for teens, amid growing calls from social media companies to better protect young people online.

This change is intended to help teens limit their screen time and be more conscious of how much time they spend on TikTok during their day. the company said on wednesday.

TikTok will send a weekly screen time summary to all teen accounts and encourage teens who spend more than 100 minutes in the app to set a daily limit.

The company said it settled on the default 60-minute limit after consulting academic research and experts at Boston Children’s Hospital’s Digital Wellness Lab, but Keenan said, “There is no question about the ‘right’ screen time, or screen time. broader impact.”
